He is a native Wichitan who graduated from Rider High School and most recently spent the past 7 years as the Head Men's Golf Coach at the University of Texas - Rio Grande Valley.
As the head coach, Tate guided the program to a pair of top-five finishes in the 2021-22 season as they finished third at the Herb Wimberly Intercollegiate and fifth at The Big Texan Invitational.
